Beringea, the transatlantic growth capital investor, has made an initial investment in SovatoTM, a healthcare technology company enabling remote surgery and procedures. The investment comes as the company announced the use of the Sovato Platform in the successful completion of a series of remote robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) procedures in a preclinical technology demonstration. The preclinical tests, performed by seven surgeons across four specialties and presented at the Society of Robotic Surgery 2024 Annual Meeting, represent an important milestone in validating the broad application of remote robotic surgery.

The Sovato Platform is a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive solution for enabling and orchestrating remote robotic surgeries and procedures. Sovato's system-agnostic platform brings together the remote surgery ecosystem, including the RAS systems and healthcare providers, to deliver the curated fiberoptic network, clinical workflows, data, and supporting infrastructure required to enable safe, scalable, and profitable remote robotic surgery programs. For healthcare organizations, Sovato’s platform supports the complete remote surgery program spanning the entire remote surgical journey for surgeons, care teams, and patients.

Michael Gross, Beringea U.S. managing partner and Sovato board observer, said about the investment: “Remote surgery has the capability to rapidly expand access to high-quality surgical care to millions of patients globally. The innovative platform Sovato has developed, led by experienced co-founders Cynthia Perazzo, CEO, and Yulun Wang, executive chairman, (who previously founded InTouch Health, an exited U.S. portfolio company), made for an extremely attractive opportunity. We’re excited to partner again with this leadership team at an inflection point in their growth journey.”

“Beringea has been a long-time partner, as Michael Gross and the team at Beringea supported the second company I founded, InTouch Health, in the early days until its acquisition by Teladoc Health,” said Yulun Wang, executive chairman and co-founder of Sovato. “As we embark on Sovato, our next company together, I look forward to a continued partnership and the opportunity to navigate creating a category with an investor who understands our space, believes in our vision, and demonstrates a steady calm.”
