William Blake III supports the investment team in identifying and analyzing potential
investments, financial modeling, industry research, working with and monitoring portfolio
companies, deal execution and negotiation, and fundraising.

Prior to joining Beringea, Blake served as an investment banking associate at P&M Corporate
Finance in Southfield, Mich., where he supported the management of middle market sell-side
and buy-side transactions, advising clients on divestitures, acquisitions, and refinancings.

He is a graduate of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Jeff Bocan, Venture Partner

Jeff Bocan is a Venture Partner responsible for investment sourcing and advisement. He has worked in both the U.S. and U.K. on numerous Beringea funds over the past decade, with a particular focus on companies in the clean tech and technology sectors. Jeff also serves as a board director for several Beringea portfolio companies. In addition, Jeff is the senior vice president of mophie, a Beringea portfolio company with operations in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He supports the mophie executive team in all aspects of the company's strategic growth and development, including new business, global sales initiatives, marketing and partnerships, enterprise strategies, intellectual property protection, and the overall diversification of mophie's product portfolio.

Prior to joining Beringea and mophie, Jeff was an associate at Saffron Hill Ventures, an early-stage technology VC firm in London. He also has worked in marketing roles for BMW of North America and beverage company Honest Tea. Jeff graduated with a B.A. in Government and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa; and received an MBA with high honors from the University of Virginia.

Michael Gross, Managing Director

Michael is responsible for investment sourcing, analysis, deal execution and portfolio management. He focuses on the health care and medical technology sectors, and has expertise in medical devices, diagnostics, life science research, drug delivery, health care providers and outsourced services. Michael serves as a board director for Beringea portfolio companies Molecular Imaging, Delphinus Medical Technologies, InTouch Health, Intervention Insights, Xanitos and Relume Technologies, and is a board observer for Pioneer Surgical Technology and MedVantx.

Prior to joining Beringea, Michael was a vice president of investment banking with P&M Corporate Finance (PMCF). While at PMCF, Michael led M&A transactions and capital raises for companies in the life sciences, health care and outsourced business services sectors. Before working at PMCF, Michael worked in the investment banking group at Stout Risius Ross, Inc.

Michael is a CFA charterholder and earned a B.A. in Finance from Michigan State University.
 

Andi Jenkins, Director of Marketing and Communications

Andi guides the company’s brand strategy and communications efforts, in addition to day-to-day marketing and public relations tasks. She also provides on-going marketing and PR consulting services to Beringea’s global portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Beringea, Andi served as account executive and social media director at AutoCom Associates, an automotive and high-tech public relations agency in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Andi graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the Eli Broad College of Business and the Honors College.
 

Kelly O'Donnell, Marketing & Communications Specialist

Kelly is responsible for the marketing and communications efforts for Beringea's InvestMichigan! Growth Capital Fund and other special projects. Previously, Kelly served for five years as the director of marketing and communications at Beringea, where she guided corporate branding and oversaw marketing and communications activities in three countries.

Prior to joining Beringea, Kelly worked in marketing and public relations roles for several arts organizations in the city of Chicago, including the Printers Row Book Fair, Center for Performing Arts at GSU and the Chicago Film Festival.

She earned a master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Marketing and French from Michigan State University.

As founder, Charlie has overall responsibility for Beringea's activities. He has more than 20 years of investing experience and is directly involved in identifying, analyzing and making investments, providing ongoing assistance and strategic advice to portfolio companies, and coordinating the investment exit process. In addition, he manages the Michigan Growth Capital Partners Funds, which provide growth capital and/or mezzanine financing.

Aside from his responsibilities managing the Firm, Charlie is a board member of Venture Michigan Fund I and II, funds-of-funds targeting Michigan-based venture capital firms. Previously, he served for several years as a board member of Michigan Strategic Fund, one of the State’s leading economic development and finance authorities.

He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.B.A. and a MBA.

 

David M. Ruby, Principal

David Ruby is responsible for investment sourcing, analysis, deal execution and portfolio management. David serves as a board director for Beringea portfolio company Livio Radio and an observer for portfolio companies Intervention Insights and Ranir.

Prior to joining Beringea, David was an analyst with P&M Corporate Finance (PMCF), a middle-market investment bank in Chicago. While at PMCF, David executed M&A transactions for companies in the business services and life sciences industries. Before working at PMCF, David was an associate portfolio manager with the Northern Trust Company, a global asset management firm in Chicago.

David holds an MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and a BBA from Western Michigan University. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Leslie is responsible for daily management and administrative operations of Beringea and provides analytical services in connection with proposed and active portfolio companies.

Since the company's inception, Leslie has been responsible for the development and management of its corporate operations. Prior to joining the Beringea, Leslie was a corporate bond trader with J.W. Korth and Company, a small regional broker dealer and investment banking firm.

Leslie received a B.H.S. degree from St. Mary’s College and an M.S.B.A. from Madonna University.

Shane heads up Beringea's Sales in the UK, working closely with its network of Intermediaries. He has over 16 years’ experience in raising equity for tax efficient investments.

Shane joined Beringea in 2008 from the Noble Group where he was Head of Retail Sales for Noble Fund Managers. Prior to joining the Noble Group, Shane held a number of senior management positions at Abbey National and Teather & Greenwood, and was a commissioned officer in the British Army. He has an MBA from the London Metropolitan University and a BA in Social Sciences from Exeter University.

Trevor heads the UK investment team and is responsible for investment sourcing, analysis, deal execution and portfolio management. He sits on the boards of Beringea portfolio companies Fjordnet, Celebrus, Think, SPC International, SkillsMatter, InSkin Media and Matssoft.

Before joining Beringea, Trevor spent six years at 3i in the UK and the USA, where he made over 40 investments. These included investments in mobile phone content management software business Paragon Software, which was sold for $515m, and Cambridge Industries Ltd, a designer and manufacturer of components for home TV satellite systems which was sold to Bell & Howell. Earlier in his career, Trevor worked in corporate finance for Barclays and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Trevor is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and earned an MBA from Exeter University.

Kate supports sales and marketing activity in the UK and works closely with Beringea’s network of intermediaries.

Kate graduated from the University of the West of England, Bristol with a BA Hons degree in Business.
Prior to joining Beringea, Kate spent two years at the Noble Group, supporting the retail sales and group marketing activities as the key contact for both shareholders and intermediaries.

Karen joined Beringea in 2007 from The Boston Consulting Group, and is currently a Partner at Beringea seeking new investments and working with portfolio companies.  In addition to advising a number of start-ups, Karen’s previous experience includes the role of Marketing Director for Swiss Army/Wenger watches. 

Her recent deals include Beringea’s investment into Utility Exchange Online and Monica Vinader.  Karen also represents Beringea on the boards of BlisMedia, Cross Solar, Eagle Rock Entertainment, Eagle-I Publishing, Tossed (the healthier eating place), and Cinergy Ltd.

Karen has lived and worked in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and has an MBA from INSEAD and a BSBA from Boston University.

Stéphane manages the investment for Beringea’s ProVen Health VCT. Prior to joining Beringea Stéphane was an Associate Director of Healthcare Investment at Noble since May 2007 and Fund Manager of the Bloomsbury Bioseed Fund since November 2000. Before his role at Noble Stéphane was Associate Director at SmithKline Beecham and also worked at the American consulting firm, ZS Associates, specialising on sales and marketing issues within the pharmaceutical industry. In addition he has been involved in the start-up of a strategic consulting company specialising in R&D and marketing strategy for the biotech and healthcare industry, Double Helix Development

Malcolm K.H. Moss, Founding Partner

Malcolm is responsible for evaluating investment opportunities, providing ongoing assistance and strategic advice to portfolio companies, and coordinating the investment exit processes at Beringea.

He has spent 18 years investing in the media, intellectual property rights and content sectors, a career highlighted by investments in the companies owning rights to Thomas the Tank Engine, Angelina Ballerina and Sooty. Malcolm sits on a number of portfolio company boards as well as the investment committees of Global Rights Fund II and InvestCare Partners.

Prior to joining Guinness Mahon Development Capital in 1989, Malcolm gained Europe-wide industrial and analytical experience in healthcare and engineering with both Baxter International and Uniroyal Inc. as Head of Planning for Europe. He then joined the financial services sector as Senior Strategist with Lloyds TSB Group, one of the UK's largest financial services groups.

Malcolm graduated with a B.A. in Business Studies in 1981 and a M.B.A. from Kingston Business School, London, in 1989.

Marette is responsible for the daily management and administrative operations of the London office and assists the marketing, finance and investment teams.

Prior to Beringea, Marette worked in a similar role for a post-production company which edits television advertisements and short films.

Steven manages all Beringea financial and reporting matters and serves on the board of Beringea LLP. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte & Touche and worked in the United Kingdom and Australia, latterly as a manager within the corporate finance department.

Prior to working at Beringea, he spent five years with Investec Asset Management in London gaining a wide range of experience in financial management and systems implementation and development.

Stuart Veale heads the London office of Beringea and sits on the investment committees of several of the firm's funds. In that capacity, he takes a lead role in investment sourcing, evaluation and execution activities. He also supports investments as a board member for a number of portfolio companies including Espresso Group Limited.

He started his venture capital career 23 years ago at 3i, the UK’s largest venture capital firm and alma mater of many of the UK’s leading VC community members. Prior to his arrival at Beringea, Stuart was a director of Lloyds TSB Development Capital, where he was Senior Director and Head of the Thames Valley office.

Stuart graduated with a degree in Engineering Science from Oxford University and an MBA from the London Business School.

James Willey, Financial Controller

James qualified as a chartered accountant with Augentius Fund Administration where he was a Team Leader managing a portfolio of private equity and infrastructure fund clients. He later moved on to work at 3i plc as a Fund and Investment Portfolio Accountant to oversee the management and reporting of a number of carry funds and high profile investments before joining Beringea in October 2012.

James graduated with a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Reading.
